Abbey Leisure Centre was built in 1992. Since that time the centre has gone through a number of changes, the most recent being the expansion and then full refurbishment of its fitness suite.

This is a result of its growing membership base.

In 2005 Abbey Leisure Centre became a ‘Quest' registered centre, achieving Quest status at its first attempt. The centre is run by Selby District Council and focuses on helping to achieve the councils mission to “improve the quality of life for those who live and work in the district”.
