Abbey Leisure Centre's indoor 25 metre pool is a fully heated family pool with a fun toddler pool. The pool also boasts a large fun slide with splash pool, jacuzzi and fun water fountains. Perfect for everything from lane swimming to family fun sessions fun sessions, the pool timetable at Abbey caters for more fitness based swimming and families alike. The pool has private changing facilities, family changing area, private disabled changing and a pool hoist for wheelchair users.

Selby Swim Scheme
Selby District Council provides the Selby Swim Scheme. If you want to learn to swim, improve your technique or train for health and fitness, this is the scheme for you. The Selby Swim Scheme offer fantastic opportunities for all ages and abilities.
Abbey Leisure Centre's swim programme is graded as follows:
Pre-School Waterbabes
These classes are for parents and babies aged 1 year and upwards. This class teaches safety in the water, fun games and the basics of movement and buoyancy in the water.
Ducklings
Ducklings is the first step towards independence in the water. Children without their parents in the water will move on to learn the fundamentals of swimming and water confidence through games and fun activities and start to learn basic swim technique.
Dolphin Grades 1-8
Dolphin levels allow progression from learning to swim to confident swimmers.
NPTS LEVEL 1: Aims to introduce water confidence and use of water aids.
NPTS LEVEL 2: Aims to improve confidence with the use of floats and swimming with a recognisable arm stroke and leg kick.
NPTS LEVEL 3: Improves stokes and technique for those who can swim 10 metres on the front and backs.
NPTS LEVEL 4: Aims to develop strokes to a good standard.
NPTS LEVEL 5: Focuses on improving stroke technique and starts to build stamina. Includes treading water for 30 seconds.
NPTS LEVEL 6: Aims to increase stamina to swim 100 metres using 2 different strokes.
NPTS LEVEL 7: Aims to introduce diving/straddle entry. Surface dives and increasing distance/stamina.
NPTS LEVEL 8: Swim 400 metres in 2 strokes. Begin to learn the basics of lifesaving.
Adult Lessons: Adult lessons are held every Monday 10:30am-11:30am and every Friday 8.30pm -9.30pm. No matter what your age, or if you have never learned to swim before, adult lessons provide a fully qualified ASA coach to provide advice and coaching on swim technique. These sessions have a great fun aspect and offer adults the chance to improve stroke technique or build confidence in the water.

STA recognised centre
Highlighting our continued commitment to provide a first class child swim scheme, Abbey Leisure Centre recently became a recognised STA, National Swim Teachers' Association Centre. Shown presenting the award to staff, is STA Regional Development Officer Paul Tracey.
Selby Tiger Sharks Swimming Club
The swimming club offers an outlet for those interested in competitive swimming or regular swim training sessions:
OTTERS DEVELOPMENT SQUAD:
Otters provides the link from learning to training to compete. Individual must have reached a level of at least LEVEL 6.
SEALS TRAINING SQUAD: For NTPS LEVELS 6/7.
The start of intensive training schedules with aim of building strength and stamina. Progression to this level is based upon ability and coaches' approval.
MARLINS COMPETITIVE SQUAD:
Intensive training requiring commitment from parents
and coaches. This involves a high level of training.
Progression to the Marlin's squad is based on the
coaches' approval.
